Dimitris Vavylis
Dimitris Vavykis was born in 1987. He grew up in Trikala next to the imposing rocks of Meteora. From a young age he had a special love for nature and animals. His involvement with nature photography began in 2005 in parallel with the first year of his studies in the Department of Biology of the University of Greece. His first photographic steps were taken in the wetlands of northern Greece and for several years he devoted himself to bird photography. After graduation he moved back to Trikala where he has since worked as a partner of the Hellenic Ornithological Society/BirdLife Greece in programs to protect Aspropari, the most endangered bird species in Greece. The absence of large wetlands nearby forced him to develop his photographic abilities and “unbutton” the telephoto lens from the body of the machine. So his photographic interests range from the microcosm of mushrooms to the endless hours of waiting in hiding places waiting for a mammal. His favorite photographic season is Autumn and he prefers to use wide-angle lenses even for photographing animals. He has participated in numerous photography exhibitions while he was a judge in international photography competitions.
